The industrial heritage of Nea Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Roads of water – Roads of fibre-textile industry
Olga Dakoura-Vogiatzoglou, archaeologist A’ EPCA, Substitute member of TICCIH board

The industrial activity was spread from Nea Ionia to the surrounding refugee settlements of N. Philadelphia, N. Chalkidona and N. Irakleio; as a result the area was developed as an important fibre-textile industry centre of Greece. Many factories were built in these areas, from which only a few survive. Britannia factory and Vamvakourgia (cotton processing industry) are the last specimens remaining at Nea Philadelphia.
