Program "Local communities & Monuments of Naxos" - 3.8.2007
MOnuMENTA

The e-magazine ΜOnuMENTA keeps track of the overall degradation of the natural and architectural environment and through scheduled activities attempts to raise public awareness and consciousness of the situation and contribute to the attempts of changing it. For these reasons MOnuMENTA arranged the programme “Local Communities & Monuments of Naxos” in Naxos, Cyclades’ greater island and a place of exceptional natural and cultural resources.
Protection of architectural remains and the natural environment is of prime importance. Participation in this initiative should be holistic and the citizens that dwell near or live within the monuments (:the local communities) should be part of the process and by no means excluded. Moreover, the monuments –media of memory- cannot be separated from the collective memory and the social perception of time.
The programme -being scheduled and regulated by the archaeologists Irini Gratsia and Stelios Lekakis- aspires to create a movement that begins with educating the public & raising awareness about the cultural heritage resources through the Local Administration of Naxos. Being informed and aware is the first and foremost part of protecting the monuments.
Thus, commencing, the programme for the e-magazine MOnuMENTA and the Municipality of Drymalia, we invite you to attend the public meeting (with lectures and open dialogue) on Friday 3rd August 2007, at 8.30 p.m. at Lachanario Sq., Philoti, Naxos.
