Τhe 6th issue of the e-magazine MONUMENTA is dedicated to Landscape.
The landscape, as defined in the European Landscape Convention, known as the Florence Convention (2000), "means an area, as perceived by people, whose character is the result of the action and interaction of natural and/or human factors". This definition reflects the notion that the landscape is changing not only as a geographical area, but a unity that is perceived by a human observer, adding a load of historical and social memory to define it.
In other words, "A landscape is not, as some perceive it, just a set of land, plants and water. It is the projection of the people's soul over the material world" (Odysseas Elytis, The Public and Private, Ikaros, Athens 1990).
Landscape contains so many interpretations and narratives, is something dynamic in the way it is understood and reformed. This is the focus of our next issue, whose thematics range from the ambition to develop general theoretical texts on how we perceive landscape, in more specific texts for the urban landscape, landscape architecture, landscape ecology, the greek landscape, cultural landscape, protected landscapes of outstanding natural beauty, the timeless landscape, the commercialization of landscape, the problems it faces, the framework of protection, and cases of landscape management, natural and urban, in Greece and abroad.
