Collection of Oral Testimonies

Since 2013, MONUMENTA has included in the research for the documentation of buildings the collection of oral testimonies from the owners and users of the buildings and from architects, civil engineers, contractors, who worked in Athens, Thessaloniki, Kalamata, Piraeus, Kifissia, Skiathos, etc.

The collection of testimonies is carried out through oral interviews that are videotaped and more rarely written, mainly after consultation and more rarely at the time of recording.The interviews are gradually transcribed in order to utilize the information and register it on the website.

An important field for the collection of oral testimonies are meetings and discussions in neighborhood cafes where old buildings are preserved, as well as tours of streets with guides who are the residents themselves.

The material that has been collected constitutes a source of rare wealth of elements of collective urban memory and images of the city.
