The Municipality of Filothei-Psychiko, in collaboration with MONUMENTA, has been implementing since February 2, 2026 the research program “Recording of historical buildings of the Municipality of Filothei-Psychiko, period 1924–1970”, which concerns all three Municipal Units: Filothei, Psychiko and Neo Psychiko.The Municipality is the first Local Government Organization to proceed with such a systematic recording, assuming institutional responsibility for the protection and promotion of its historical identity.
Recording of 1,600 buildings
Over a period of three months, MONUMENTA’s collaborators, archaeologists K. Bouropoulou, El.Eleftheraki and F. Patoura, recorded 1,600 historical buildings.They toured all the streets of Psychiko, photographing the exteriors and completing the same number of recording sheets.At the same time, architect George Ninos documented the year of construction of 500 buildings.
Meetings with residents – Collection of oral testimonies
s part of the action to collect oral testimonies, ten meetings with residents were held.Nine of them took place at the former Blue Bell in 1st Square of Psychiko and one was held via a walking route on the streets of the area.Participation was particularly high, with 41 residents giving interviews.A special case was the interview with architect-urban planner Eva Zoumboulidi, daughter of architect Nikolaos Zoumboulidis, who designed Filothei.The interview was conducted by E. Gratsia, with the collaboration of architect G. Apostolakou.The interviews were edited by E. Gratsia and N. Lavda.Archival materialThrough collaboration with residents and mainly through interviews, significant archival material (photographs, drawings, documents and publications) was collected, which documents the history of the city.The original material was scanned and returned to its owners.
Educational programs
As part of the project, free educational programs are implemented in the schools of the Municipality.The 1st Primary School of Psychiko attended the MONUMENTA program "Recording an old building, discovering its history".Through the program, students learn about the values and problems of historical buildings, the history of the city and actively participate in the recording of their school building.Recording in Neo PsychikoThe recording of the buildings in Neo Psychiko began on May 4.The first building recorded by the MONUMENTA team, in the presence of Mayor Charalambos Bonatsos and Deputy Mayor for Culture, Literature, Arts and Volunteerism Evelina Paltzoglou, was the Sourlou residence at 1 Seferi Street. On May 8, the first meeting of residents to collect oral testimonies was held in Spyropoulio, while the meetings continue every Friday in May, 11:00–13:00.
